Foreign debt rose 1.03% to USD 3,428 bil in Afghanistan in 2023, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, foreign debt in Afghanistan reached an all time high of USD 3,556 bil in 2021 and an all time low of USD 979 bil in 2006. When compared to Afghanistan's main peers, foreign debt in Iran amounted to USD 9,901 bil, USD 130,847 bil in Pakistan, USD 6,873 bil in Tajikistan and USD 3,918 bil in Turkmenistan in 2023.
