Based on a comparison of 167 countries in 2024, Malta ranked the highest in foreign direct investments as a share of GDP with 1.75% followed by Cayman Islands and Hong Kong. On the other end of the scale was Luxembourg with -0.717%, Ireland with -0.254% and Hungary with -0.147%.

Average foreign direct investments as a share of GDP reached 0.013% in 2024 in the World according to the National Statistical Office. This is 52.7 % more than in the previous year and -49.0 % less than 10 years ago.
