Historically, total coal consumption in Switzerland reached an all time high of 799 kt in 1984 and an all time low of 150 kt in 1998. When compared to Switzerland's main peers, total coal consumption in Austria amounted to 4,147 kt, 15,045 kt in France, 262,922 kt in Germany and 21,450 kt in Italy in 2015.
