Historically, rural population as a share of total population in Vietnam reached an all time high of 85.3% in 1960 and an all time low of 59.8% in 2024. When compared to Vietnam's main peers, rural population as a share of total population in Cambodia amounted to 74.0%, 34.5% in China, 61.1% in Laos and 45.7% in Thailand in 2024.
