Price of cigarettes as a percentage of average U.S. price fell 10.8% to 22.4% in Mauritania in 2016, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, price of cigarettes as a percentage of average U.S. price in Mauritania reached an all time high of 29.5% in 2008 and an all time low of 21.7% in 2012. When compared to Mauritania's main peers, price of cigarettes as a percentage of average U.S. price in Algeria amounted to 19.0%, 21.2% in Mali, 32.7% in Morocco and 13.2% in Senegal in 2016.
