Population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population rose 1.99% to 12.5% in Kenya in 2024, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population in Kenya reached an all time high of 12.5% in 2024 and an all time low of 5.89% in 1960. When compared to Kenya's main peers, population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population in Ethiopia amounted to 4.32%, 14.3% in Somalia, 13.9% in Tanzania and 8.10% in Uganda in 2024.
