Population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population rose 0.833% to 16.3% in Sweden in 2024, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population in Sweden reached an all time high of 16.3% in 2024 and an all time low of 10.7% in 1960. When compared to Sweden's main peers, population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population in Denmark amounted to 23.3%, 23.9% in Finland, 19.8% in Norway and 23.9% in Russia in 2024.
