Population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population rose 0.602% to 24.4% in Iraq in 2024, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population in Iraq reached an all time high of 30.7% in 1991 and an all time low of 20.3% in 1960. When compared to Iraq's main peers, population in cities of more than 1 million as a share of population in Iran amounted to 25.2%, 67.4% in Kuwait, 50.7% in Saudi Arabia and 26.4% in Syria in 2024.
