Non-performing loans as a share of bank loans fell 20.8% to 2.65% in Romania in 2022, according to the National Central Bank.
Historically, non-performing loans as a share of bank loans in Romania reached an all time high of 21.9% in 2013 and an all time low of 2.59% in 2007. When compared to Romania's main peers, non-performing loans as a share of bank loans in Bulgaria amounted to 4.53%, 3.79% in Hungary, 6.44% in Moldova and 38.1% in Ukraine in 2022.
Romania has been ranked 72nd within the group of 124 countries we follow in terms of non-performing loans as a share of bank loans, 65 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
