Merchandise trade as a share of GDP fell 3.75% to 29.2% in India in 2024, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in India reached an all time high of 43.0% in 2012 and an all time low of 6.54% in 1972. When compared to India's main peers, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Bangladesh amounted to 25.6%, 32.9% in China, 23.8% in Pakistan and 31.9% in Sri Lanka in 2024.
