Historically, iron ore production in New Zealand reached an all time high of 3,946 kt in 1978 and an all time low of 142 kt in 1970. When compared to New Zealand's main peers, iron ore production in Australia amounted to 816,782 kt, 6,000 kt in Indonesia, 1,535 kt in Malaysia and 107 kt in Philippines in 2015.
