Historically, foreign debt in Ethiopia reached an all time high of USD 33,290 bil in 2023 and an all time low of USD 169 bil in 1970. When compared to Ethiopia's main peers, foreign debt in Eritrea amounted to USD 726 bil, USD 42,910 bil in Kenya, USD 3,023 bil in Somalia and USD 22,581 bil in Sudan in 2023.
