Historically, cigarette consumption per capita in Italy reached an all time high of 1,802 per year in 2002 and an all time low of 1,174 per year in 2016. When compared to Italy's main peers, cigarette consumption per capita in Austria amounted to 1,446 per year, 685 per year in France, 1,398 per year in Slovenia and 1,127 per year in Switzerland in 2016.
